Paper by Ming Yuan, Bing-Yi Shi, Han-Zhong Li, Ming Xia, Yong Han, Xiao-Guang Xu and Yin-Sheng Zhang entitled “De novo Urothelial Carcinoma in Kidney Transplantation Patients with End-Stage Aristolochic Acid Nephropathy in China” [Urol Int. 2009;83(2):200–5; DOI: 10.1159/000230024].

The article “De novo Urothelial Carcinoma in Kidney Transplantation Patients with End-Stage Aristolochic Acid Nephropathy in China” [Urol Int. 2009;83(2):200–5; https://doi.org/10.1159/000230024] by Ming Yuan, Bing-Yi Shi, Han-Zhong Li, Ming Xia, Yong Han, Xiao-Guang Xu and Yin-Sheng Zhang has been retracted by the Publisher and the Editor.

After the publication of this article, concerns were raised about the local transplantation procedures at the time this study was conducted [1]. The article does not contain information regarding the source of the donated organs nor information regarding the consent for organ donation.

The authors were contacted and asked to clarify the above and provide documentation confirming that the study received approval from an institutional review board. The authors did not respond to requests to comment on the above and within the given timeframe despite multiple attempts of contact.

As there is insufficient information regarding the transplantation protocol, a lack of documentation to demonstrate ethical approval and unresolved concerns about the study’s adherence to international best practices with regards to organ donation and transplantation, this article is being retracted.

The authors did not respond to our correspondence regarding the retraction of this article within the specified timeframe.
