Abstract
In 72 male and female patients cystometrograms were performed with 3 test solutions (saline, pH 5.0; glycocoll puffer, pH 8.0; saturated phosphate puffer, pH 8.0) in order to detect a difference in bladder reactions due to acid or alkaline media. Neither in the control group (14 female patients) nor in the group with patients suffering from an irritable bladder (38 female and 11 male patients) nor in the group before and after prostatectomy (9 patients) differing urodynamic parameters were obtained. 38 male and female patients, however, with alkalinity of urine all after previous urinary tract infections with irritable bladder symptoms, got rid of their complaints after acidification of their urine with ammonium chloride 0.5 g capsules t.i.d.
