On the basis of 11 cases of intraepithelial carcinoma of the bladder the bibliography on this subject is revised and the clinical, endoscopic and histopathological features are discussed. Intraepithelial carcinoma may appear clinically as a chronic stubborn cystitis without true tumour or may be preceding, subsequent or concomitant to a bladder tumour. From the endoscopic point of view it appears as red patches in the mucosa and small yellowish granulations that are in fact neoplastic v.Brunn’s nests. By microscopical observation, the epithelial cells show neoplastic features with superficial extension but without submucosa or muscular infiltration. The 11 reported patients were subjected to different methods of treatment: (1) Chemotherapy, (2) Tele-cobalt, (3) endoscopic surgery and (4) total cystectomy.
