The results of 76 cryo-prostatectomies performed from June 1966 to april 1968 are reported. The equipment used is the Linde C-E-4 for transurethral freezing of the prostate. There has been no operative lethality and few complications. The great difficulty is the elimination of necrotic tissue. As an attempt to solve this problem a small TUR was performed after thawing in about one half of the cases. In some cases a temporary incontinence was noted. Functionally as evaluated clinically, radiographically and by urodynamics the results are 80% good. The long term results can not yet be stated. Our indications for this treatment are now middle-sized glands, poor-risk patients and carcinoma of the prostate.
